Hydro Cholet and ID System Fluid successfully remove AdBlue® from a hydraulic tank
___________________
AdBlue® is an easy to use, non-hazardous, transparent liquid, injected into the exhaust pipe upstream of the catalytic converter. Thanks to the AdBlue® and SCR technology, vehicles are much cleaner and their emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) are significantly reduced.
For this case study, our mission consisted in:
- understanding the composition of the solution
- finding a solution to prevent corrosion in certain tanks
- removing AdBlue® from the hydraulic tank
IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEMS
The AdBlue® and SCR technology to reduce NOx is now common in several types of off-road mobile machinery including:
- agricultural equipment such as tractors
- mobile cranes and mobile/telescopic cranes
- port machinery
- airport machinery
- construction site machinery
One of our partners, Hydro Cholet, was asked by one its customers confronted with a problem of AdBlue® in their hydraulic oil.
If the tank is not clean, the SCR system can be contaminated with particles coming from oils/fuels/lubricants. The tank may become blocked. This results in costly repairs. The vehicle must be switched off during the repair. This represents a non-negligible loss.
Conversely, if AdBlue® is mixed with the hydraulic oil, the consequences are similar.
THE ID SYSTEM FLUID SOLUTION
OUR PROPOSAL WAS:
1 – Take samples and carry out analysis on the AdBlue®
2 – Install a Cardev offline filter to check the efficiency of the filtration
3 – Install a Cardev bypass filter if the tests are conclusive
RESULTS
AFTER RESTARTING IN OPERATION
We installed a Cardev offline filter. After a few hours of operation, the hydraulic fluid became clear again. The photographs speak for themselves.
The AdBlue® was very quickly removed from the hydraulic oil.
This customer was able to keep his oil, avoid hours of downtime and clean very expensive hydraulic systems. Indeed, the Cardev filter installed in bypass started to clean the oil while the public works machinery was in operation.
